Aug 05, 2022 (newstodate): Despite the Russian airspace closure, most cargo figures improved year-on-year and remained close to June 2022 figures in July, says Finnair in its report on July 2022.
Finnair carried a total of 9,247 tonnes of cargo in July '22, up 33.8 percent, y-o-y, which brought the seven-months' total cargo volumes to 73,592 tonnes, also up 55.8 percent, y-o-y.
Loads on Finnair's Asian traffic in July increased by 25.5 percent to 4,357 tonnes thanks to the cautious opening of more flights to the region, while loads on the North Atlantic lanes increased by 125 percent to 2,716 tonnes as Finnair turned its focus away from Asia to North America due to the closure of Russian airspace and sustained Covid-19 limitations on routes to China.
Finnair also strongly improved its performance on the European routes, seeing volumes up by 760.6 percent, y-o-y, to 2,013 tonnes.
The airline's all-cargo flight volumes are now almost insignificant, totaling only 135 tonnes in July '22 as cargo returns to belly holds on passenger flights.
Looking back on pre-Covid times, Finnair carried a total of 14,783 tonnes of cargo in July 2019, of which the Asian loads were 10,464 tonnes, and NAM generated only 1,308 tonnes.
