Aug 16, 2022 (newstodate): The new Faroese cargo airline under formation, FarCargo builds on a firm foundation from the start.
-The flights from Vagar to the USA will be filled 100 percent with seafood shipments from the key driver behind the project, Bakkafrost and maybe other Faroese seafood exporters, says Birgir Nielsen, FarCargo CEO.
-Concerning the return flights to Europe from the USA, we already have positive indications from US exporters with needs for capacity to European markets which will contribute positively to optimizing the economics of operation, notably balancing the heavy fuel costs.
-We also expect to be routing at least some return flights to the Faroe Islands via Denmark, and Faroese companies are expressing their interest in contracting FarCargo to carry imports from Denmark. It is still not decided if our Danish destination will be Copenhagen or Billund airports
-Flight operations will be provided by our partner, West Atlantic that will place our Boeing 757-200 converted freighter on their AOC. We expect, however, to move the aircraft to our own AOC within two to three years as we build up experience in this business. Also, a recruitment campaign with deadline on September 1, 2022, has now been opened to attract Faroese crews to our new company, says Mr Nielsen.
The aircraft is currently undergoing a C-Check in Istanbul and slated to start commercial flights in October/November 2022 already.
