Aug 11, 2022 (newstodate): Effects from the Russian war on Ukraine, the closure of Russian airspace and post-Covid supply chain disruptions are taking a heavy toll on cargo traffic at Latvia's Riga Airport.
Opening up with significant increases in volumes in the first two months of this year, the development has been negative month by month since March.
In July '22, the airport thus handled a total of 1,540 tonnes of cargo which was a drop by 20 percent, y-o-y, including 680 tonnes of cargo dipping 45 percent, and 860 tonnes of mail that however increased by 26 percent, y-o-y.
In the first seven months of 2022, the airport has thus seen total volumes down by 13 percent, y-o-y, to 12,507 tonnes including 7,095 tones of cargo and 5,412 tonnes of mail.
Compared to pre-Covid July 2019, cargo handled at Riga Airport in July '22 was down by 46 percent, and mail volumes down 39 percent.
