Jul 29, 2022 (newstodate): Stockholm Arlanda Airport is benefiting from the opening of Finnair's long-haul traffic in 2022.
Counting flown cargo volumes alone, and excluding also mail volumes, the airport saw its total volumes up by 14.5 percent, y-o-y, to 50,043 tonnes during January-June 2022.
Totals comprise 30,276 tonnes of exports - not least thanks to Norwegian seafood for the US market - and 19,767 tonnes of imports.
While other airlines have also gradually returned services at Stockholm Arlanda Airport, Finnair is undoubtedly the key driver behind the significant cargo growth at the airport in H1/22.
Finnair launched services on the route from Stockholm to New York EWR from December 7, 2021, with three weekly rotations, alongside flights to Los Angeles starting from November 3, 2021, also with three weekly rotations, and adding flights from Stockholm to Miami from October 4, 2021, with four weekly rotations, going up to four rotations from November 29, 2021.
In the summer 2022 season, Finnair has even increased the frequencies on the US-bound routes; from May 1, 2022, Finnair is operating from Stockholm Arlanda to New York daily, and to Los Angeles four times a week.
With the first flight on March 27, 2022, Finnair launched four weekly flights from Arlanda to Dallas, and from June 1, the carrier has added three weekly flights to Seattle.
