Jul 25, 2022 (newstodate): The Latvian carrier airBaltic has now started redelivery of its entire Bombardier Q400 aircraft fleet to the lessor.
The fleet comprises 12 units that were all phased out from production and grounded at Riga Airport as the carrier decided to go for an all-Airbus A220-300 fleet from May 2020.
The 12 aircraft are leased from Nordic Aviation Capital under a contract expiring in 2023 - and as an interim solution, airBaltic contracted Jetcraft Commercial to exclusively market the three-years sub-lease of 11 of the 12 Dash 8-400 NextGen aircraft.
With the first delivery in November 2009, airBaltic built a fleet of 12 Bombardier Q400 aircraft, of which the first eight were an outright purchase from the manufacturer.
Ownership of the first aircraft was next taken over by the Danish aircraft leasing company Nordic Aviation Capital in December 2010 through a sale-lease back transaction, and the remaining four aircraft were leased from NAC from the start.
