Jun 29, 2022 (newstodate): Works are soon to start at Oslo Airport, realizing the long-nurtured hopes for a "Cool Hotel" to secure unbroken cool chain logistics for seafood exports.
-We expect the approval process with pertinent authorities to be completed by August this year, with construction works to start by late August and commissioning of the new facility to take place in May 2023, says Roy Skrederberget, OSCC.
-By that time, all seafood shipments from Oslo Airport will be stored in temperature-controlled environments either at GPC, OSCC or at the new Cool Hotel, securing year-round unbroken cool chain logistics for Norway's seafood exports at Oslo Airport.
A contract was signed on March 9, 2022, between Avinor and Oslo Seafood & Cargo Centre AS for construction of the new Cool Hotel, allocating space for OSCC to start construction of the facility that will drastically reduce the need for icing of seafood shipments, which is especially crucial during warmer summer seasons.
The 4,200 m2 facility with a capacity of storing up to 90 pallets per hour will be operated on a neutral basis to allow utilization by all exporters in the country's important seafood industry.
