Jun 03, 2022 (newstodate): One more aircraft in the fleet of the Ukrainian carrier SkyUp Airlines has found a new user in the west.
The Turkish charter carrier Freebird Airlines has signed a long-term wet-lease contract with the Ukrainian airline for one Boeing 737-800 aircraft, now joining Freebird's Airbus fleet of aircraft.
The aircraft was actually first operated for five years by now-defunct Danish charter carrier Sterling European from February 2004, and was also serving the Swedish carrier Viking Airlines for two brief periods - and ended up with SkyUp Airlines in April 2019.
Among other lessees of SkyUp Airlines is Latvia's airBaltic, and SkyUp Airlines - under the certificate of the Turkish airline Tailwind - is also becoming a frequent operator at three Baltic airports, chartered by the tour operator Join UP! for flights to Mediterranean leisure destinations during this summer season.
