Jun 07, 2022 (newstodate): A unique sight: this weekend saw all Star Air's fleet of 15 Boeing 767 cargo aircraft on the ground.
For one reason: the final transfer of Star Air all assets as well as insurance certificates and contracts to the new legal entity, Maersk Air Cargo was completed, marking the birth of the new A P Moller Group cargo airline, managed by Peter Corfitsen as CEO.
In the first phase - and adding to serving Star Air's integrator customers as hitherto, Maersk Air Cargo will operate three Boeing 767 freighters - currently being converted from passenger versions - to be based at Denmark's Billund Airport for cargo flights between Europe and China, adding two new ex-factory Boeing 777F aircraft in late 2024 dedicated to serving customers of Maersk Air Cargo.
The carrier is now in the process of recruiting some 60 pilots and captains - which is presumably an easy task as more than 3,500 applicants have so far filed their papers..
