Jun 23, 2022 (newstodate): The Icelandic virtual carrier Niceair is still struggling to get things straight with the British CAA.
So far, Niceair has failed in getting its planned routes to the UK up in the air; flights from Akureyri to London Stansted and Manchester, planned for launch from June 3, 2022, were stalled after only one flight due to Brexit legal effects on air services by EU member state airlines.
-We are in the final stages of submitting our suggestions to the UK authorities. The actions taken were unexpected, but we are working towards re-establishing the link, says Thorvaldur Ludvik Sigurjonsson, Niceair CEO.
-Sadly, this has meant disruption for many of our passengers, but we have striven to find amicable solutions for all of them. The air link to Northern Iceland is very vital to be re-established; Iceland as a country grows as a destination and presents a new world to return visitors.
-Otherwise, the operation is going really well. Decent loads on flights to Copenhagen launched on June 2, 2022, and to Tenerife South starting from June 8, and the UK problem has translated into extra capacity in July, which we have found to be in high demand.
-So we are more than compensating for UK losses, says Mr Sigurjonsson.
Niceair's flights are provided by the Portuguese ACMI and charter carrier HiFly allocating one of its two Airbus A319 aircraft to serve on Niceair's route network.
