Jun 03, 2022 (newstodate): The coming new cargo airline Maersk Air Cargo is building up its organization, aiming at launch of operations already in the latter half of this year.
Among the new appointments, Maersk Air Cargo has named Veli Polat its Global Head of General Sales & Services Agent.
Mr Polat will bring in rich experience from no less than 28 years with the Lufthansa Group since 1994, last in the position as Snr Dir Strategic Projects Global Markets Lufthansa Group Airlines.
Maersk Air Cargo will be operating 15 Boeing 767-300 freighter aircraft with operational bases at Leipzig and Cologne/Bonn, primarily moving air cargo for integrator customers UPS and DHL under contracts signed with Star Air.
In the first phase, Maersk Air Cargo will operate three Boeing 767 freighters - currently being converted from passenger versions - to be based at Denmark's Billund Airport for cargo flights between Europe and China, adding two new ex-factory Boeing 777F aircraft in late 2024 dedicated to serving customers of Maersk Air Cargo.
The new cargo airline, to be managed by Peter Corfitsen as CEO, builds on the existing in-house cargo airline Star Air with a current fleet of 15 Boeing 767 cargo aircraft including 12 Boeing 767-200 and three Boeing 767-300 converted freighters operating on contracts with integrators as well as providing charter services.
