Jun 09, 2022 (newstodate): Adding to the sustained effects from the global Covid-19, the Russian invasion of Ukraine has made a deep impact on cargo volumes at Finland's Helsinki Airport.
In May 2022, total cargo volumes dipped by 13.7 percent, y-o-y, to 11,675 tonnes after a fall in April by 12 percent and by 20 percent in March 2022.
Constituting the main bulk at the airport, international cargo and mail handled at the airport were down by 13.9 percent to 11,524 tonnes in May.
In January-May 2022, the airport has thus handled a total of 70,304 tonnes, still up 6.6 percent, y-o-t, thanks to strong growth in January and February - until the Russian aggression closed the airspace.
