May 23, 2022 (newstodate): Latvia's Riga Airport is suffering from the effects from Russia's war on Ukraine.
After a strong and sustained growth trend continuing into the first two months of this year, the airport has seen its cargo volumes declining steeply.
Down 35 percent, y-o-y, in March 2022, volumes dropped a further 29 percent, y-o-y, in April 2022, to 1,540 tonnes including 777 tonnes of cargo and 763 tonnes of mail.
While mail volumes have so far managed to stay almost unchanged, cargo volumes in April were only half of the volumes in the first two months of the year.
Riga Airport has been thriving on transfer of Asia-Europe e-trade shipments, but the region's logistics sector is now experiencing severe effects from the sanctions imposed on Russia.
