May 05, 2022 (newstodate): In the aftermath of the coronavirus pandemic and caught by the current disruptions of the global marketplace, Norway's salmon exports are not immune to change..
In the first 17 weeks of this year, ending May 2, Norway exported a total of 282,223 tonnes of salmon - a huge volume, but anyhow seven percent less than in the corresponding period in 2021.
Money-wise, the situation is more encouraging: the average overall per-kilo price increased by 47 percent during the same period.
During weeks 1-17 in 2022, the Chinese market imported 8,619 tonnes of Norwegian salmon, down 10 percent, y-o-y.
In week 17/2022 alone, China took 328 tonnes of Norwegian salmon which was a dramatic 44 percent down on last year - due also to the strict embargo on imports and curfew in many large Chinese cities.
But at the same time, the per-kilo price skyrocketed by 94 percent, compared to 2021.
The salmon is sailing in turbulent waters....
