May 03, 2022 (newstodate): Recovering from the Covid-19 devastating effects on civil aviation, Iceland's Keflavik Airport is foreseeing a brisk return in traffic volumes in summer 2022.
Traffic through Keflavík International Airport is now growing rapidly after a sharp contraction that began due to COVID-19 in the first half of 2020.
The airport authority Isavia now expects that in the coming months, the number of passengers will start approaching the number of passengers in 2019, seeing the number of passengers through Keflavík International Airport in April 2022 reach 82 percent of volumes in April 2019.
In summer 2022, 24 airlines have announced flights to Iceland from 75 destinations.
Compared to other Nordic airports, Keflavik Airport is little affected by the ongoing Russian/Ukrainian war as the focus is on US/Europe traffic and not on Asian lanes, as in the case of not least Helsinki Airport.
