May 31, 2022 (newstodate): With short notice, the Belarus carrier Belavia has been forced to cancel its plans for launch of flights to Israel.
On May 15, 2022, the carrier obtained Israeli approval of its scheduled resumption of flights from Minsk to Tel Avia in June - but now the approval has been annulled as Israel has refused to serve the Belavia aircraft at Tel Aviv.
If actually carried through, Belavia would have been forced to route its flights via Kazakhstan, resulting in nine hours' flying time, compared to only four hours on the earlier routing.
Belavia does not operate aircraft capable of covering this distance, necessitating an en-route fueling stop at Baku, in Azerbaijan, also adding to the cost.
Belavia has been disconnected from IATA's global airline system BSP concerning ticket sales, and from CASS, IATAs global system for air cargo settlements.
Belavia has grounded about half of its aircraft fleet due to the implementation of the latest round of sanctions from December 2, 2021.
