May 12, 2022 (newstodate): Isavia has not issued a passenger forecast since before COVID-19 due to the great uncertainty prevailing - but has now published its estimates for the 2022 passenger volumes.
Isavia expects to be handling 5.7 mio passengers this year, which equals 79 percent of the pre-COVID numbers, and 16 percent up on last year, while transit passenger volumes will reach 73 percent of the 2019-figures.
The recovery in the number of passengers during the high summer and into the autumn is expected to be 93 percent in July, 91 percent in August and 98 percent in September.
The number of transfer passengers is expected to almost double in May and increase steadily until the autumn, with two airlines - Icelandair and Play - offering connecting flights between Europe and North America via Keflavik International Airport.
The passenger forecast predicts that 2022 will see almost 1.5 million transfer passengers, compared to just over 2 million in 2019 and only 350,000 last year.
This summer will see 24 airlines operating at Keflavik Airport, against 25 in 2019, and the airport will be connected to 75 destinations against 80 in summer 2019.
