Apr 04, 2022 (newstodate): The Estonian cargo airline AVEM AERO has added a new freighter aircraft type to its portfolio: an AN-26.
The aircraft has been leased from the Ukrainian carrier Constanta and joins AVEM AERO's fleet of two SAAB 340 cargo aircraft offering time-critical services in markets including hi-risk countries.
-The market of SAAB and technically similar aircraft is however cluttered, while there are only five AN-26 aircraft operating. So, for AVEM AERO it is a move into a relatively free niche as well as business diversification, says Nikolay Kurbanov, Avem Aero Managing Director.
-Difficulties with the AN-26 linked to its third country registration does constitute an issue, so AVEM AERO had to seek authorizations from other EU countries in a process lasting several months. And now we still need to get permission for every charter. But it’s not as difficult as it seems at first glance, our OCC is getting along with it.
-Earlier, AVEM AERO operated only urgent ‘go now’ flights, but in Covid times, due to deficit of semiconductor and microchips, this segment experienced a dead season. So the carrier started to offer standard charter cargo flights.
-High in AVEM AERO's strategy of development is diversification, as proved also by the launch in December 2021 of a Flight Dispatch and Operations Control Center service available to airlines worldwide
