Apr 20, 2022 (newstodate): A new charter carrier is to launch operations between Russia and Turkey already before the end of May 2022 - if plans hold..
   Behind the plan is the Turkish government, keen to support its crucial charter tourism where the Russian market plays a key role, now threatened by the Russian war in Ukraine and the western sanctions.
   To be named Southwind Airlines and with HQ in Antalya, Turkey, the planned airline will have an initial fleet of five Airbus aircraft including two wide-body aircraft.
   Due to sanctions, Turkish charter carriers like Pegasus and Corendon have suspended flights between Turkey and Russia as insurance companies have withdrawn support, but the Turkish state is obviously intending to cover up for this in the case of Southwind Airlines.
