Apr 12, 2022 (newstodate): Emerging from Coronavirus-hit 2021 with a drop by five percent to 2,770 tonnes in total cargo volumes, figures so far into 2022 are boding well for a strong recovery at Sweden's Jonkoping Airport.
In this year's first quarter, the airport has thus been handling 728 tonnes of cargo which is an increase by nine percent, y-o-y.
Driving the growth is Post Sweden's return to Jonkoping Airport from January 31, 2022, with a nightly flight on weekdays between Stockholm Arlanda and Jonkoping Airport, operated by the Swiss carrier Zimex that is already operating flights on other Swedish routes for the postal company with ATR aircraft.
The airport is however also seeing a marked growth in ad-hoc cargo operations, generating 47 tonnes in Q1/2022 against only 11 tonnes in Q1/2021 - and a total of 40 tonnes in Jan-Dec 2021.
The bulk of the airport's cargo still remains provided by integrators FedEx, Time:Matters and DANX connecting the airport with Brussels, Karlsruhe, Oslo, Billund and Helsinki.
