Apr 11, 2022 (newstodate): The Latvian carrier airBaltic is adding power to its new base at Finland's Tampere Airport, through an expansion of its code-share agreement with SAS.
Through this deal, passengers at Tampere Airport can connect seamlessly to SAS' flights at Oslo and Copenhagen to continue on SAS's international route network.
To balance the shortfall of transit traffic via Riga from Russia, Ukraine and Belarus, airBaltic is opening its first base outside the Baltic region at Tampere, where the carrier will base one Airbus A220-300 aircraft to build up a network of connections to Oslo starting from May 2, 2022, with three weekly rotations; to Copenhagen from May 3, 2022, with three weekly rotations; to Frankfurt and Munich from May 2, 2022, with three weekly flights, and to leisure destinations Malaga and Rhodes from May 1 and 3, 2022, respectively, with two weekly flights.
Direct flights connecting Tampere and Riga Airport have been operated since 2017, now as an all-year service with up to six weekly rotations.
airBaltic and SAS inked their first code-share agreement taking effect from October 31, 2004, and have since continuously added new elements and routes to the cooperation.
