Apr 27, 2022 (newstodate): The strong cooperation between Ryanair and Lithuania's Kaunas Airport is poised to become even closer.
Ryanair has won the 40 years' land-lease tender for a plot at Kaunas Airport, allowing the carrier to expand its aircraft maintenance center.
Construction works of the new Ryanair MRO facility are set to begin in Q4/2022, with the start of operations planned for the end of 2023.
Ryanair's plans also include the construction of two aircraft maintenance hangars and an expansion of the existing aircraft repair shop.
The works to be carried out on a 7,043 m2 land plot will expand the MRO infrastructure and increase the airport’s overall competitiveness.
Ryanair performed its first flight in Lithuania at Kaunas Airport on September 22, 2005, making Kaunas Airport its 40th base from May 2, 2010, and in 2011, supported by EU's structural funds, Ryanair decided to build its first aircraft technical maintenance center at Kaunas Airport.
