Apr 25, 2022 (newstodate): News are emerging that not just one, but two airlines are being established to secure the flow of Russian tourists to Turkish leisure destinations after the enforcement of sanctions barring flights by Russian airlines.
First out was Southwind Airlines with HQ in Antalya and supported by the Turkish state, aiming to launch services already in May 2022 with a fleet of five Airbus A320 aircraft.
Now a second airline is under preparation - MGA Aviation that has already received prior approval from Turkey's CAA.
MGA Aviation plans to be operating two Boeing 737-900 and two Boeing 777 also from May 2022 pending the speedy finalization of all pertinent procedures.
Set up in 2007 and named Mavi Gok Aviation, MGA started out three aircraft in 2010, growing to 15 in 2005, and established two new companies Azur Air Russia and Azur Air Ukraine with own AOCs in 2016 - now both sanctioned.
