Apr 19, 2022 (newstodate): Amid a sustained decrease in international flights by foreign airlines, Russia's Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport can greet at least one newcomer: Mahan Air.
Yesterday, on April 18, 2022, the Iranian airline performed it first direct flight on the route from Tehran to Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport and is now offering two weekly rotations using airbus A310-300 aircraft on the route.
The carrier is offering onward flight services from Tehran to destinations in its network in South East Asia and on domestic routes.
Earlier, Mahan Air launched flights from Tehran to Moscow Vnukovo Airport, offering two weekly rotations on the route from June 2015, but retreated again by the outbreak of Covid-19.
From June 9, 2016, Mahan Air was operating two weekly rotations between Tehran and Copenhagen with Airbus A340 aircraft, with a third rotation planned to be added from June 13, 2017.
But the route was closed down again already from Mach 2017, allegedly after an inspection detected that the airline carried armed air marshals, which is not permitted under Danish law.
