Apr 22, 2022 (newstodate): Finnair reopened passenger flights from Helsinki to Shanghai from March 10, 2022, but has been barred from flying temperature controlled shipments.
Shortly after the restart on the route, Shanghai Pudong Int'l Airport Cargo Terminal Co., Ltd informed its customers, including Finnair Cargo, that restrictions had been placed on cold storage and handling of all temperature-controlled cargo in their terminal.
This effectively meant that Finnair Cargo has been unable to transport Norwegian seafood shipments on the route - crucial to the profitability of the operation.
Now, Finnair Cargo is happy to inform the market that temperature controlled cargo is again accepted for transport on the Shanghai route.
However, the embargo on dangerous goods on the Shanghai route is still in effect.
Finnair's route to Shanghai operated once weekly remains the airlines' only flight service to China - before the coronavirus served with seven weekly rotations.
In summer 2019, Finnair was operating 38 weekly flights from Helsinki to six destinations in China - Beijing from June 2, 1988, Shanghai from September 2003, Chongqing from May 9, 2012, Xian from June 14, 2013, Nanjing from May 13, 2018, and Guangzhou from September 2, 2005, as well as to Hong Kong from May 19, 2007.
