Apr 11, 2022 (newstodate): Hot on the heels of last week's news of the Maersk Group's launch of Maersk Air Cargo with a European hub at Billund comes the announcement of a mega project aiming at securing Billund a position as a new European cargo hub by 2040.
The project will be backed by investments from Denmark's largest pension fund, PensionDenmark, and the two parties will set up a joint company by late 2022/early 2023 to drive the development of the Billund Airport City towards 2040, aiming at seeing cargo volumes rising from today's 77,000 to 160,000 tonnes annually.
The Airport City will seek to attract leading logistics companies and airlines to Billund Airport that will establish office facilities, warehouses and hangars to serve the coming new clients on a 700 ha plot at the airport premises.
