Apr 05, 2022 (newstodate): The Latvian carrier airBaltic is not only taking in more aircraft in 2022; the seat capacity of the Airbus A220-300 is also to be increased.
In the original configuration, the aircraft has been certified for 145 seats; however, the Airbus A220-300 is now certified to operate up to 149 seats, and the company’s fleet is now undergoing gradual change in cabin configuration, unblocking additional seats that could not be used previously.
As of April 5, 2022, the company has changed the cabin configuration for the first five of airBaltic’s 33 Airbus A220-300 aircraft, and airBaltic plans to unblock the additional seats on its entire fleet by summer 2023.
Due to different seat configuration, the first 20 aircraft will have 148 seats available, while the next 12 aircraft will have 149 seats.
All aircraft to be delivered between 2022 and early 2024 are planned to have 148 seats.
airBaltic received seven units in 2021, and 2022 will see delivery of a further eight Airbus A220-300 aircraft, the first of which was received on February 23, 2022.
This will bring the fleet to 40 aircraft as part of the follow-up order for 50 aircraft, after which the airline still holds options for a further 30 aircraft with Airbus.
