Mar 09, 2022 (newstodate): The coming new North Icelandic virtual carrier Niceair plans to launch flights from June 2, 2022, with bookings to open later this month.
Based at Akureyri Airport, Nice Air will be offering flights to three destinations in Europe for a start: Copenhagen, London (with the airport yet to be specified), and Tenerife South.
Flights will be provided by its partner, the Portuguese ACMI and charter carrier HiFly allocating one of its two Airbus A319 aircraft to serve on Niceair's route network.
Behind the project is Thorvaldur Sigurjonsson, CEO of Circle Air, an Icelandic air tours and charter company operating from Reykjavik and Akureyri, offering sightseeing tours with smaller aircraft.
The launch of the new flights at Akureyri Airport aims at opening up for a new stream of tourism in Iceland where the focus has so far centered on the area in the south due to the location of the country's largest airport, Keflavik, and Iceland's capital Reykjavik.
