Mar 18, 2022 (newstodate): The new North Icelandic virtual carrier Niceair has now published start-up dates for its first three routes from Akureyri.
The program will open with two weekly rotations between Akureyri and Copenhagen on June 2, 2022, followed by lauch of flights to London Stansted on June 3, 2022, also with two weekly rotations, rounding off with the first flight to Tenerife South from June 8, 2022, offering one weekly rotation.
Flights will be provided by its partner, the Portuguese ACMI and charter carrier HiFly allocating one of its two Airbus A319 aircraft to serve on Niceair's route network.
Behind the project is Thorvaldur Sigurjonsson, CEO of Circle Air, an Icelandic air tours and charter company operating from Reykjavik and Akureyri, offering sightseeing tours with smaller aircraft.
The launch of the new flights at Akureyri Airport aims at opening up for a new stream of tourism in Iceland, where the focus has so far centered on the area in the south due to the location of the country's largest airport, Keflavik, and Iceland's capital Reykjavik.
