Mar 18, 2022 (newstodate): The Icelandic LCC Play is building up its aircraft fleet to reach 10 units by Spring 2023.
Starting out with three Airbus A321 aircraft, the carrier took delivery of one A320neo by the start of this month, expecting to add one more in April 2022.
In May 2022, Play will take in its first Airbus A321neo LR aircraft, bringing the fleet to six aircraft to operate this coming summer schedule.
Besides expanding the aircraft fleet, Play is also to install more seats in its Airbus A321 fleet, going up from 192 to 214 seats to bring down unit costs by some seven percent.
Having started out with a network of Scandinavian and European routes, Play is now preparing for the next step - the launch of services from this summer between the USA and Iceland with onward connections to 21 other European destinations including London, Paris, Barcelona, Copenhagen, Prague, Dublin and Amsterdam.
The first two US destinations on the network of PLAY will be Boston Logan International Airport and Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport.
