Mar 15, 2022 (newstodate): Flight planning is a challenge in 2022 given the disruptions from the Covid-19 as well as the recent implementation of sanctions including closure of airspace above many countries.
Finnair thus reopened passenger flights from Helsinki to Shanghai only from March 10, 2022, with one weekly rotation operating on alternate routes south or north of Russia, translating into longer flying hours and thus also less optimal use of aircraft that otherwise manage to perform a full rotation within 24 hours.
Now, China has again seen an outbreak of Covid-19 in Shanghai, and CAAC has announced that all inbound international passenger flights to Shanghai from Thursday, March 17, 2022, will be diverted to 13 other cities for six weeks.
So far, it seems that freighter and all-cargo flights will still be allowed into Shanghai.
Finnair launched flights to Shanghai in September 2003, and prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, the carrier offered seven weekly passenger flight rotations on the route.
