Mar 03, 2022 (newstodate): Lithuanian ACMI carrier GetJet Airlines has abrogated its contract with TUI as a consequence of the EU sanctions on Russia.
In September 2021, GetJet Airlines landed a contract with TUI Baltics, one of the region's largest tour operators, to provide capacity for scheduled weekly flights from Riga, Vilnius and Tallinn to tourist destinations Hurghada and Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt starting from October 14, 2021.
However, monitoring the list of people comprised by the EU sanctions package, GetJEt Airlines has found the Russian oligarch Alexey Mordashov a major TUI shareholder with 34 percent of the stakes in the company.
-We cannot remain indifferent to the war in Ukraine. We respond and act following the sanctions imposed by the EU; we monitor the list of the people included in the EU #sanctions package, and for this reason, we cancel the planned flights and terminate cooperation with sanctioned business units, says Darius Viltrakis, GetJet CEO.
