Mar 30, 2022 (newstodate): Norway's seafood exporters can look forward to a major lift in the country's seafood air logistics infrastructure.
Latest news is DB Schenker Norway's decision to invest in a new dedicated seafood facility at Oslo Airport, aired in an invitation to customers participating at the Seafood Expo Global in Barcelona on April 26, 2022.
The project, tentatively named Nordic Air Freight Hub@OSL, aims at enabling DB Schenker to dig deeper into the total value chain, securing full control of the flow and an unbroken cool chain process at the facility to be designed for handling of up to some 100,000 tonnes of seafood annually.
Today, DB Schenker is also partner in Gardermoen Perishables Center, GPC, together with DHL and the Norwegian freight forwarder Air Cargo Logistics.
Construction works are also now in full swing at Oslo Airport that will see the opening of a new seafood cargo terminal in summer 2023.
To be established by a private developer Oslo Airport City, The World Seafood Center will comprise 40,000 m2 terminal space, of which 20,000 m2 are already taken on an 18-years lease contract with an option for further expansion by GPC, Gardermoen Perishables Center owned by Schenker Norway, DHL and the Norwegian freight forwarder Air Cargo Logistics.
Also at Oslo Airport, a contract was signed on March 9, 2022, between Avinor and Oslo Seafood & Cargo Centre AS for construction of a new Cool Hotel at Oslo Airport.
The contract allocates space at the airport for OSCC to start construction of the coming new facility that will drastically reduce the need for icing of seafood shipments, which is especially crucial during warmer summer seasons.
The 4,200 m2 facility with a capacity of storing up to 90 pallets per hour will be operated on a neutral basis to allow utilization by all exporters in the country's important seafood industry.
