Mar 17, 2022 (newstodate): If no solutions are found, Greenland will be disconnected from Denmark as Air Greenland suspends its daily flights between Kangerlussuaq and Copenhagen Airport shortly before Easter.
At stake is a conflict with Danish Metal Workers Union that has issued a strike warning taking effect from April 9, while Air Greenland has issued a lock-out warning concerning all technical staff members of this union at all stations in Greenland as of April 11, 2022.
The existing agreement between Air Greenland and Danish Metal Workers Union expired in 2020, but due to the Covid-19 and its disastrous effect on the aviation industry, the parties agreed to its extension till 2021 - but negotiations over a new agreement have so far failed to produce a result.
Air Greenland's route connecting Greenland and Denmark is crucial to the Greenland society, being the only scheduled provider of air shipments of mail and cargo as well as medicals and much food supply, while also transporting over half of all passengers between the two countries.
At the same time, Air Greenland's domestic services connecting the outlaying cities and hamlets with the capital at Nuuk will also come to a stand-still.
