Mar 23, 2022 (newstodate): Air Greenland is keen to be seen riding on the green wave of emission-free aviation.
The company has entered an agreement with Avolon in the form of an LoI concerning lease of VX4 eVTOL aircraft that are expected to be ready for flights within three years, offering the capacity of flying with one pilot and four passengers within a range of 160 km at a speed of 320 km/h, and able to operate with vertical take-off and landing procedures like a rotary-wing aircraft.
Avolon has placed orders for up to 500 VX4 eVTOL aircraft, and Air Greenland can now boast of being the first European carrier buying into this new venture.
One thing is the aircraft; introduction of electrically-driven aircraft will presuppose a comprehensive infrastructure to secure also the required power in the grid, and batteries would prove capable of keeping power under adverse temperature conditions.
But at least, Air Greenland is scoring points on the political agenda of green transmission...
