Feb 28, 2022 (newstodate): Speculations about the fate of the An-225 Mriya freighter aircraft have now come to an end: the aircraft has indeed been damaged or destroyed by Russian fire.
   Drone photos document the damage to the hangar at Gostomel Airport housing the An-225, and the Ukrainian government has also confirmed that the aircraft is now inoperable, while the Ukrainian president Zelensky promises that a new one will be built.
   The An-225 performed its last operation from China to Denmark's Billund Airport on February 4, 2022, returning for maintenance from Billund to Gostomel on February 5, 2022, to its home base at Gostomel Airport on what was to become its last flight.
