Feb 25, 2022 (newstodate): Like everyone else, the Norwegian seafood industry is watching the developments around Russia and Ukraine closely.
In 2021, the value of Norwegian seafood to Ukraine accounted for 1.8 percent of the total export value, corresponding to some 2.2 bio Norske Kroner.
The value of seafood export to Russia corresponded to 0.2 percent of the total, or 248 mio NOK, and the value of exports to the Eurasian Economic Union, including also Russia, was two bio NOK, corresponding to 1.7 percent of the total value of Norway's seafood exports in 2021.
Norway's Seafood Council rightfully foresees that the exports to Ukraine will now be a challenge, also in the light of the coming trade restrictions by the EU and the USA.
In 2021, Ukraine actually increased its import of Norwegian salmon by 55 percent, to a total of 21,041 tonnes; and until week 7 this year, the growth in volumes in 2022 was still 13 percent, y-o-y.
