Feb 08, 2022 (newstodate): New in the fleet of the Latvian ACMI and charter operator SmartLynx Airlines are now the first two Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.
The carrier has signed an agreement with SMBC Aviation Capital to lease two Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft to meet growing demand in the European and overseas markets.
The two Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft will enter the SmartLynx fleet in April 2022, with further additions planned later in the Summer, 2022.
A world-leading aircraft operating lease company, SMBC Aviation Capital will thus be the first lessor to support SmartLynx with Boeing 737 MAX 8 type aircraft.
Already in December 2022, SmartLynx started a recruitment campaign to source suitably qualified crews for the newly leased aircraft.
The Boeing 737 MAX will join the airline's growing aircraft fleet now comprising a total of 35 aircraft, including four on Estonian registers, making it the largest carrier in the Baltic region - but with the Latvian carrier airBaltic trailing only slightly behind with a fleet of currently 32 Airbus A220-300, set to grow to 40 aircraft before the end of this year.
