Feb 10, 022 (newstodate): Icelandair is heading for a busy summer 2022 schedule.
Plans are to operate flights to 50 destinations with a total of 420 weekly rotations, translating into about 80 percent of the volume in pre-Covid 2019.
The schedule will be operated with Icelandair's fleet of 13 Boeing 757, three Boeing 767 and 14 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft on the international routes.
Commenting on the airline's Financial Report 2021, Icelandair is again raising the issue of a replacement of its workhorse, the Boeing 757 aircraft.
Icelandair has earlier been planning to decide by the end of this year on the future successor to the aging Boeing 757-200 aircraft; but the Boeing 737 MAX fleet is performing so well at longer-than-expected range and with even less fuel consumption as anticipated that it will match the needs for a longer period.
Icelandair now expects to see the Boeing 757-200 leaving the fleet by 2026, allowing for new thoughts on a future long-haul aircraft type without forcing a decision, with the Boeing 787 and the Airbus A321XLR as viable alternatives.
