Feb 16, 2022 (newstodate): Finavia reports a hefty growth in cargo volumes at Helsinki Airport in the first month of this year.
   A total of 15,996 tonnes of cargo was handled at the airport - an increase by 41.4 percent, y-o-y, reflecting the recovery of traffic at Finland's capital airport where its base carrier Finnair is stepping up its long-haul traffic again.
   International cargo dominated with 15,885 tonnes, up 41.5 percent, driven by 15,653 tonnes of international cargo while international mail volumes dropped 32.8 percent to a mere 232 tonnes in January 2022.
   In 2021 Helsinki Airport handled a total of 179,360 tonnes of cargo, up 21.8 percent y-o-y, but still way below volumes in pre-Covid 2019 when 234,461 tonnes of cargo was handled, growing 13.1 percent, y-o-y.
