Feb 25, 2022 (newstodate): Finnair Cargo is fighting to keep its crucial traffic to China at the highest possible levels - but the Covid-19 still reigns..
In the coming week, Finnair Cargo will not be able to serve the route to Guangzhou, reopened from November 2, 2021, with two weekly rotations.
Guangzhou became Finnair's fourth Chinese destination from September 4, 2005, with three weekly MD-11 rotations, going up to four rotations from summer 2006, but pulled out from the route from winter 2009 as recession set in.
Finnair however returned to Guangzhou again from May 6, 2015, with four weekly rotations during the summer schedules.
Flights to Hong Kong have also been limited starting from February 22, 2022, until further notice, rendering only one cargo service available in week 8.
As matters stand now, Finnair will also be operating only one weekly flight on the route through March 2022.
In the coming week, Finnair Cargo will operate three weekly flights between Helsinki and Shanghai; prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, the carrier offered seven weekly rotations on the route.
Finnair's scheduled passenger flights to Beijing have been suspended since February 2020, while the carrier has been operating two weekly cargo-only flights between Helsinki and Beijing - also now not in the schedule.
In summer 2019, Finnair was operating 38 weekly flights from Helsinki to six destinations in China - Beijing from June 2, 1988, Shanghai from September 2003, Chongqing from May 9, 2012, Xian from June 14, 2013, Nanjing from May 13, 2018, and Guangzhou from September 2, 2005, as well as to Hong Kong from May 19, 2007.
