Feb 09, 2022 (newstodate): The Danish seaplane operator Nordic Seaplanes has teamed up with Canarian investors to establish a new airline on the Canary Islands.
Named Surcar Airlines, the coming new carrier will start commercial flights from this autumn to connect the islands´ major cities Tenerife, La Palma and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria with pontoon-fitted aircraft.
The Danish operator has started a series of test flights with a DHC-6 Twin Otter to prove the viability of the planned services for political decision makers and the islands' tourism industry.
Today the only scheduled seaplane operator in Europe, Nordic Seaplanes launched commercial services from May 25, 2016, on the route connecting Denmark's two largest cities, Copenhagen and Aarhus, with now two DHC-6 Twin Otter in the fleet.
