Feb 08, 2022 (newstodate): Chapman Freeborn, part of the Lithuanian Avia Solutions Group, sees a future for the Airbus Beluga ST in the Russian market for unique and oversized cargo air transportation.
Speaking to Russian media, Vladislav Volzhanin, Chapman Freeborn RU Director, says the solution opens up new markets and logistics opportunities for the space, aviation and energy industries.
-Already now, the airline is ready to transport entire helicopters without dismantling. Taking into account the needs of the market, we are working on obtaining permits for the transportation of larger goods - aircraft engines and 20-foot containers. We expect that we will receive the appropriate permits by March-April of the current year, says Mr Volchanin.
In January 2022, Airbus Industries set up an own airline operating five Beluga ST aircraft for commercial operations in a market currently dominated by the AN-124 and the AN-225 large freighters.
With the largest internal cross-section of any freighter, the Beluga ST has the capacity to accommodate oversized cargo up to 7.1m wide and 6.7m high in a cargo compartment 39 m long, offering a maximum carrying capacity up to 47 tonnes.
