Feb 07, 2022 (newstodate): Latvia's Riga Airport has come off to good start in cargo volumes in 2022, continuing a strong growth trend.
In January 2022, the airport thus handled a total of 2,449 tonnes of cargo against 2,236 tonnes in January 2021, and 2,174 tonnes in January 2019 - up 10 percent against 2021, and 20 percent against 2019.
Last year, the airport saw its cargo volumes up by 20 percent, y-o-y, to a total of 27,831 tonnes.
Contributing to the increase in cargo handled at the airport is the rapid growth of e-commerce due to the pandemic, boosted by the twice-weekly Hong Kong-Riga freighter service established by Venipak and starting from September 18, 2021.
