Dec 07, 2022 (newstodate): Icelandair saw passenger volumes in November 2022 up by some 47 percent, y-o-y, primarily due to a steep increase in international traffic.
On the cargo side, the situation is different; cargo transportation was down by 28 percent, primarily due to the increased use of smaller and more fuel-efficient Boeing Max aircraft in passenger flights, which led to less availability of cargo space, as explained by the company.
The same picture is seen in the cargo statistics from Keflavik Airport; in January-October '22, volumes dropped 5.2 percent, y-o-y, including exports constituting 63 percent of the total cargo, that were down by 8.8 percent.
-In 2022, we have handled some 400 fewer all-cargo and freighter flights, compared to 2021 - and this explains the drop in cargo, says an Isavia spokesperson.
