Dec 19, 2022 (newstodate): Repeatedly delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, SAS is to resume flights to Tokyo in 2023.
Starting from Mach 26, 2023, the carrier will be offering daily rotations on the route from Copenhagen Airport to Tokyo Haneda Airport - with significantly longer flying time over the North Pole to avoid flights through Russian airspace.
Already in late December 2019, SAS obtained rights to switch from Tokyo Narita to Haneda Airport, aiming at moving the service to Tokyo Haneda Airport from the start of the summer 2020 schedule.
But early in 2020, all flights were suspended due to the coronavirus; SAS hopefully rescheduled the reopening of flights to Tokyo from October 27, 2020, with two weekly rotations, going up to three weekly flights from December 6, 2020.
Which was, however, not to happen, and a new launch date was set for July 10, 2021 - which also did not materialize..
