Dec 14, 2022 (newstodate): Flown cargo volumes continued on a downward trajectory in November 2022.
In November, a total of 10,295 tonnes of flown cargo was handled at the airport, a drop by 11 percent, y-o-y, including 9,653 tonnes of international cargo that was also down by the same percentage.
During the first 11 months of this year, the airport has thus seen its total flown cargo volumes down by 10 percent, y-o-y, to 113,708 tonnes, primarily international cargo that was also down by nine percent to 107,347 tonnes.
On the positive side, National Air Cargo performed its first operation from Oslo to Tokyo Narita Airport on October 20, 2022, with capacity shared with Amsterdam, and providing Norwegian seafood exporters with the currently only direct non-stop freighter flight to the Japanese market.
Earlier this month, DB Schenker Norway also announced plans for construction of a new 4,000 m2 terminal at Oslo Airport, aiming at luring airlines to optimize the use of belly cargo space on incoming passenger aircraft for onward transfer of shipments by trucking to regional destinations, rather than trucking cargo shipments from Europe into the region - thereby supporting the profitable operations of passenger routes into and out of Oslo.
Ambitions are even to bolster the position of Oslo Airport as a Scandinavian airfreight hub.
