Dec 19, 2022 (newstodate): Starting commercial operations only in February 2022, Georgian Airlines is already adding its third freighter aircraft to its fleet.
The privately-owned carrier managed by Irakli Mezvrishvili and based at Tbilisi Airport has taken in the new aircraft, a Boeing 737-800 converted freighter on a long-term lease contract with Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings' subsidiary Titan Aviation.
In addition, the carrier has announced an order with Boeing for three 737-800 Boeing Converted Freighters as part of the group’s plan to add more dedicated cargo airplanes to its operations in the Caucasus region.
The first 737-800BCF on order will be delivered in 2023, with deliveries continuing into 2024.
The three aircraft will be modified at Guangzhou Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Company Limited and at Taikoo (Shandong) Aircraft Engineering Co. Ltd. in China.
Earlier this year, Georgian Airlines became the 6th Georgian airline to obtain the authorization by EASA, allowing the carrier to operate with one centralized permit in 28 EASA member states and four European Free Trade Association countries.
