Dec 13, 2022 (newstodate): Latvia's airBaltic is opening a new revenue stream in 2022: maintenance work on Airbus A220-300 aircraft.
By the start of December 2022, airBaltic performed a scheduled A-Check technical maintenance and engine replacement for an Airbus A220-300 aircraft of the French carrier Air Austral, marking the first maintenance work for an external customer.
In 2019, airBaltic became the first airline in the world to obtain a full scope EASA Part-145 Line Maintenance and Base Maintenance capability for Airbus A220-300 type aircraft, and the company has since performed close to 300 A-Checks and other maintenance work of different complexity on its own fleet.
Air Austral operates a fleet of three Airbus A220-300 aircraft, while airBaltic is today the world's largest operator of this type, with 38 units now in service out of 50 aircraft on firm orders - plus options for a further batch of 30 units.
As of today, a total of 238 Airbus A220 aircraft are in commercial service out of an order book comprising the delivery of 794 aircraft including Airbus 96 A220-100 and 698 Airbus A220-300 aircraft.
