Dec 14, 2022 (newstodate): The Faroese carrier Atlantic Airways has finally sold its last Airbus A319 aircraft to the US company CFM Materials for tear-down, and leaving Vagar Airport already this week.
Entering commercial service with the carrier in 2012, the aircraft has long been redundant in the fleet of Atlantic Airways that has been aiming at operating a single aircraft type, the Airbus A320, now comprising one Airbus A320-200 and two Airbus A320neo aircraft.
The carrier earlier operated two Airbus A319 aircraft, the first of which was returned to its lessor for a new life with Air Malta from October 13, 2019, while the last remaining aircraft temporarily found a new service life with the Spanish carrier One Airways, later renamed Canarian Airways, as the airline's first aircraft, and returned to Atlantic Airways in October this year.
Looking ahead, Atlantic Airways placed a follow-up order with Airbus at the Paris Air Show in 2019 for another two Airbus A320neo aircraft for delivery in H2, 2023, and H2, 2024, respectively.
