Dec 07, 2022 (newstodate): The self-proclaimed government of the so-called Donetsk Peoples Republic plans to build a new airport at Mariupol.
If plans hold, construction works will start already in 2023, the acting head of the government says.
Following on disputed referendums in September 2022, Russian-held Ukrainian territories of Donetsk, and Lugansk as well as areas of Zaporozhye and Kherson were termed parts of Russia while their actual status remains very much disputed and not recognized by any major states.
Mariupol Airport has suffered heavy damages during the ongoing Russian war on Ukraine and has been closed since 19 June 19, 2014.
